What Could Painful Swelling In Right Foot Indicate?

I ve had pain in my right foot for quite some time now. Here recently I seem to be using mainly the right side of the foot to walk, causing me to walk with a limp. The pain is mainly on top of the foot and after being on it all day, there is some swelling. Any ideas?
