What Could Redness Of Inner Lips Suggest?

i ve seen this answer about inside of the lips turning red as it is bordering the mouth. the issue though is fact that it has just started to so turn since last christmas. my son goes to a boarding school, he s an african male and this is very noticeable and very unsightly too. is it a medical issue? should we see a doctor
