What Could Reduced Wax And Itchy Ears Indicate?

My ears do not seem to produce enough ear wax, even after weeks of not cleaning them, there is little ear wax. They are often extremely itchy. Yet, now and then, I will eventually find compacted, brown, clumpy ear wax, like it was hiding somewhere. What could cause this and how do I fix it?
