What Could Spots On Cervix Suggest?

what does it mean if a 24 year old has a spot on her cervix? It was apparently discovered during a prenatal visit (I think) and she is supposed to go back & have it checked or a biopsy....her baby is 6 mos old....they wouldn't have waited this long if it was anything serious would they...she seems to think it may be HPV related.
