What Could Yellow Scaly Patch On Scalp Suggest?

i have a yellow scaly patch on my scalp. When i pick at it it bleeds but if i leave it it just builds up...i have tried different antibacterial ointments and herbs and nothing has really seemed to work! I dont have health insurance and it is just so embarassing, any ideas of what it could be???
