Bacterial Infection or Shingles?
Hello, I am 31 year old male and feel healthy, I dont get sick that often and I dont have any medical conditions.
Last monday before I went to bed I felt a tingle on the tip of my nose. I thought it may be allergies so I took a benadryl and went to bed.
Two days later I woke up to find that the top of my nose had a lump and was swollen and red, but no pain and the spot felt hard to the touch.
I couldnt really tell if the the area was warm to the touch or not, but my lymph nodes under my jawline on were swollen and tender.
So I got an appointment with my family doctor the next day which was Thursday. He looked at it and said that to him it looked like a bacterial infection and prescribed me an antibiotic.
Two days went by and most of the swelling had gone down, this is when I realized that the formation of two bumps side by side were on my nose and Off to the left side of my nose a small rash had formed still no pain, just itches alot.
That evening a golden crust had formed on all three of the sites.
Later that night two of the spots on the top of my nose started to turn a black color and I got nervous, so I called an internal med physician that is a friend of mine to take a look at it.
He immediatley said it was shingles and he wrote me a prescription of acyclovir. He also got me an appointment for tody with an opthamologist to check my eyes.
I saw the opthamologist today and he said that my eyes were fine, but he felt that I didnt have shingles and to him he was pretty sure it was a bacterial infection.
I have some pictures of the progression that I would like to send if you have an email address. Can you tell me what this looks like to you?
Thanks,
Steve
