What Do Recurring Bruises With Open Sores In Body Suggest?

I have an elderly friend who has a reoccurring bruise it will be there one day then gone the next start small then grow bigger there is now an open sore at the sight. She had hip surgery 4 years ago. Her doctor said nothing and I am concerned what it might be and what tests they should be doing??
