What Does A Lump On Neck Indicate?

Hi. I have a bump in my neck that so far we were thinking that it might be my Thyroid, but my doctor referred me to ENT today because the bump is much lower than my thyroid and my blood exam came normal. My mother died of lymphoma cancer 7 years ago and my fear is that I got cancer. Can you tell me what could cause a bump right beneath thyroid?
