What Does A Lump On Thigh Indicate?

My grandson has a lump on the outside of his thigh it s still growing and has grown from a goofball size to a grapefruit size in the last two weeks been and had X-Ray and ultrasound done it s bone as its still growing and is stretching the skin what would the treatment be for this and what recovery time would be required if treated he is just turning thirteen
