What Does A Painful Sore Outside The Labia Indicate?

I have a single sore on the outside of the labia at the top right (to me). It is very painful. It only comes up every one or two years. It will stay for about two weeks then go away for another two years. I am not nor have I been sexually active for the past 15yrs. Wats up?
