What Does A Purple Rash From Wrist To Thumbs Indicate?

Hi my partner has noticed that in the last 5 days he has a purple rash going from his wrists to his thumbs on both hands. It isn't sore but we are worried. What do you think it could be?He is 28 and 14 stone. He does not have any other medical issues
