What Does Air Bubble Under The Thumb Nail Suggest?

I have what looks like an air bubble under my thumb nail. It takes up about 1/3 of the nail. It s not discolored nor is the nail deteriorating; it s actually clear. However, I filed my nail a bit and when I pull my nail back very slightly it feels like it s coming off. What s your best suggestion? Do I file the nail down past the large clear bubble (which is a considerable amount) or do I simply wait for the new nail to grow in?
