What Does Brown Vaginal Discharge While On Birth Control Pill Mean?

hi i've been getting brown vaginal discharge, i am on the pill and it never happened before. I first took the 21 day pill treatment, and then a second when which i'm still on and i keep having this brown discharge, it doesn't itch or hurt or anything it is just the discharge. could it be a side effect of my birth control pill??
