What Does Discolored Uterus With Enlarged Follicle Mean?

Hi I was recently sent for a transvaginal and transabdominal ultrasound scan by my GP, the technician would not say anything directly other than I must see my GP within 5 days and that she saw that the uterus was discolured and that there was an enlarged folicle. I am 49 and was referred for a scan as I have been having severe bleeding for the past year and the first date of my last period was 24th Dec 2010 and I have bled ever since, I also experience pain during sex. I am searching online for possible diagnosis only so that I may prepare myself prior to seeing my GP in 3 days.
