What Does Dry Patche On Face And Neck Suggest?

I am a 72 year old woman and I have within the last month noticed white, dry patches on my face and neck. I have been referred to a dermatologist by my Internist, whom I should see within the week. My Internist believes it could be some type of fungal infection since it doesn t appear on any other part of my body. He also said there was a remote possibility that it was vitiligo, but didn t think so because the spots, or patches are so dry. What is your opinion? I pray it is not vitiligo.
