What Does It Mean When You Can "see" A Pulsation

What does it mean when you can "see" a pulsation that seems to match my heartbeat, like I am seeing it in my eye? I have flashes of light now and have a doctor's appointment with a retina doctor on Tues. but do I need to do anything to keep it from getting worse? And was the "seeing" the pulsation a sign of imminent flashing to come or just a coincidence. Also I developed new eye floaters at about the same time.
