What Does Longer, Brown Periods While On Coil Mean?

Hi i had the coil fited 1year ago and went to get it checked its still in place but doc z theres a bit of erosion she took a swab for sti. I dont think its an sti what else could iy be? I had a child 14months ago my periods are quite brown and last longer than usual.
