What Does Pain But No Periods Indicate?

Hi, I'm just turning 48. Have always had regular periods, which have gotten more painful as I got older. This month, for the first time ever, I have had the usual pms symptoms, bloating, irritability, can't stop eating (!), spacial awareness not quite up to scratch.....and three days of period pain but no period! Could this be what they call "perimenopause"? Could having eating a lot of cake/chocolate over the last couple of weeks have contributed to high oestrogen levels? Should I get this checked out?
