What Does The Bone Marrow Signal Is Extremely Heterogeneous Mean?

I m a 50 year old nonsmoking female. Had an MRI done for dome knee pain and in addition to a small tear in the posterior horn of the medial meniscus, it also states in the report the bone marrow signal is extremely heterogeneous. No focal mass is appreciated. There is a small cyst present within the posterior aspect of the proximal tibia. What could that possibly mean?
