What Does This CT Scan Result For Hernia Indicate?

85 year old Dad with large paraesophageal hiatal hernia..recent history of 48 hour nausea, side pain, and pain under breast.. CT scan reveals large paraesophageal hernia with gastric volvulus and part of colon up in chest.. After vomiting episode all symptoms resolved..Surgeon recommends lap a scopic repair, Dad wants watchful waiting..what should we do? Dad very active, drives, hx of CVD s/p stents 10 years ago..on BP meds, overall pretty healthy.thank you
