Dear Dr. Rynne,I was part of a clinical trial at UCSD 10 years ago to test a new drug for Hepatitis C. I cleared the virus quickly. Have been tested every year since then and have been negative. I just started seeing a doctor because I was starting to feel sick - with body pain and flu-like symptoms. Some tests were ran in March and there was a slight positive for SCL-70. And the HCV Ab was negative. This new doctor said that did not indicate that I had Scleroderma. He ran new tests 1 month ago and went over them with me today. The HCV Ab (Hep C) is now greater than 11. The SCL-70 (Scleroderma) is now 129, and the SSA (Ro) (Sjogrens) is now 273.The doctor said I don t have Scleroderma (even though my symptoms match the Systemic version)- he prescribed 100mg of Plaquenil/1/day and he ordered another Hep C blood test, which I mention above.I have two questions. One, can a positive HCV test trigger antibodies for SCL-70 and antibodies for SSA (Ro), and the second question is; is a level of 11 or greater for the HCV and indication that I the Hep C virus has returned?Thank you very much. I am going to see if I can get into UCSD. I have straight Medicare- I am a 55 year old women generally in good health, do not drink or smoke and weigh 115 lbs. I look forward to any feedback you may have. Liz Janapol
