What Does This Result Of FNA Of Lump On Lymph Node Indicate?
I made an appointment with an ENT doctor after experiencing a sensation of swelling on one side of my throat for a few weeks. I was sick when it started but the sickness went away and the sensation stayed so I made the appointment. Dr tested for strep (negative) and we tried a one month treatment for acid reflux which did nothing. During the month of treatment for reflux, I noticed a lump under my chin in the area of the sensation I was feeling but on the outside. I mentioned it to the dr and he asked that we watch it for a few weeks as I had a small cold at the time. Few weeks later, lump was still present as was sensation in my throat. Dr ordered FNA of lump. Here is the report:Lymph node, left anterior neck, fine needle aspiration biopsy: Granulomatous Lymphadenitis Microscopic: multiple smears demonstrate a cellular specimen composed of a mixed population of both large and small lymphocytes admired with epithelioid histiocytes in small granulomas. Rare multi unclear giant cells are identified. Caseation necrosis is not appreciated. Cytologic evidence of a malignant process is not appreciated. My doctor is being less that forthcoming about what this all means and just keeps ordering more tests without explaining anything. I had to request the biopsy report record from the hospital that preformed the biopsy to even get this much info. I have an appointment to see him tomorrow but I don t even know what kind of questions to ask because I don t know what any of this means. Please help!
