What Does Vaginal Bleeding Indicate?

I have had Implanon for 14 months and have had no coloured vaginal discharge throughout this time - until now. I have been sick for the last week or so and I'm wondering if the vaginal bleeding is coincidental or related to being ill, or if it warrants a doctor's visit.
