What Has Caused Ingrown Hairs On The Back Of My Head?

I gave myself a haircut about a week ago. Over the last 4-5 days, I have noticed what seemed like in-grown hairs on the back of my head. I can't seem to get them to come to the surface. I know I shouldn't have, but I tried squeezing, heating it with a hot wash cloth, and suctioning it. What should I do? Thanks
