What Is Bartholin Gland Cyst?

I am a over weight (230lbs) 36 yrs old. I have a bartholin gland cyst. I first developed one when I was pregnant with my second child. I carried him very low and the doctor said that was the reason the cyst formed. In the past year and a half I developed abcesses twice. Both times I was during my cycle. I remember having shooting pains right before and during the cycle. Is there a link between the two? I read up on the purpose of the gland, if hormones are lacking or are too much will that contribute to the cause?
