What Is Causing The Painful Cramps For 3 Weeks?

I am having very painful cramps for almost 3 weeks prior to starting my period. This week my abdomen feels heavy and the cramping is really painful but I'm not due to start until March 4th. If I didn't know for certain I was not pregnant I'd say I was in labor---that is how it feels. I'm 45.
