What Is Painful Mole On The Mid Back?

I have a mole in the middle of my back...It has not changed shape or size but I bumped it a few weeks ago and it hurts a little. I don't have any other moles near it, but I did make an appt with a dermatologist. I am a little nervous that it could be melanoma because it has been hurting.
