What Is The Cause And Treatment For Recurrent UTI S?

I have been on macrobid 50 mg per day for 8 months, have a history of UTIs (circa 3-4 per year), am menopausal (59 yrs old), and got a UTI 2 days ago. The nurse put me on Cipro 250 mg twice a day for 3 days. I am very concerned that the suppression therapy did not work and I will have recurring UTIs. I fear that as soon as I go off the Cirpo I will get another UTI which come on very suddenly and for now reason whatsoever. I use Esterase cream 3 times per week. I have no other health issues. I had pneumonia 4 weeks ago and had Z park prescribed.
