What Is The Medical Term For: My Gastroenterologist Removed Something

What is the medical term for: My gastroenterologist removed something he found in my rectal cavity doing exploratory surgery; but failed to properly close the surgical area upon exiting in 2009! Now I must have a 2nd round of surgery do to new problem 8 years later; but what is the term for closing or sealing the area where removal occurred??
