What Is The Procedure Of Copper-T Insertion?

I am 27yrs of age and just had a normal delivery in the month of july 2010. My husband & myself would not like to have kids for another 3yrs. We have heard of copper-t, is it safe? Would it have any side-effects? I have heard that periods then would be long and very painful. Could you please tell me in detail about copper-t, how is it inserted, whether it is painful and its side-effects?Waiting for reply.
