What Is The Procedure To Give Injections?

I have started to do shots for allergies and my husband does the injections. I get a large blotch just after the shot. Can you please tell me the correct way to do the shot. Does the needle have to be all the way in my arm or maybe he is pulling it out when he pulls the plunger out to see if there is any blood. Please respond.
