What Is The Red And Swollen Rash On My Arms?

I have a terrible red and swollen rash on my hands and on my arms.The rash is unbelievably itchy and burning hot. I saw my GP who said he did not know what it was and prescribed me some steroid tablets, these have not worked. It is gradually getting worse and I am unable to sleep because of it. Do you have any ideas or suggestions please. Thank you. Gail Shawm. I am a 59 year old married woman, I am 5.7" tall and I suffer with hypertension which is controlled by tablets.
