What Is The Survival Chance For A Person After A Heart Attack?

A friend of mine had a heart attack about 50 hrs. ago. The doctors have put him in an induced coma, where he remains. Why would they do this? Do you know what are his chances of survival are...statistically? When would be an appropriate time to bring him out of this coma? Thanks.
