What Is The Treatment For Dark Lips?

My 5 month old lips suddenly became dark over the course of a week. As a first time mom, I'm very worried about this. I must add that I breasfeed her lying down at nights without burping her. I don't know if that might be the culprit. I will schedule her an appointment with her doc but in the meantime, what could this be?
