Hi, I was diagnosed with genital herpes. My only symptom is a spot on my butt. According to my ob gyn, I do not have it vaginally. My ex boyfriend and I had unprotected sex and he has never shown symptoms. I am in a new relationship, and we have never had sex yet. I informed him that I have it, and he was worried that he may get it if we ever did. Would his risk of catching it be very high since I do not have it vaginally?
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Herpes is possibly acquired through direct contact with infected skin or mucosa. Although it is common for herpes to affect the lips, oral mucosa as well as genital mucosa, but herpes can also be acquired elsewhere like fingers, shoulders (in atheletes i.e herpes gladiatorum) etc by contact with infected secretion or surfaces having active herpes lesions.
Since you have it on buttock it is less likely that your sexual partner would get it from sexual intercourse unless and until there is a direct skin to skin contact with the infected site.
