What Is The Treatment For Prickly Heat Rash On The Face?

For the first 20 years of my life, I have never had a problem with exposure to the sun (I am of italian descent) however over the past 5 years or so I get the most awful prickly heat. It looks and feels awful and really gets my down and makes me nervous about going on holiday.
I have two questions I think:
1) is there anything I can do to stop it coming out?
2) could it be related to my birth control pill? I am taking microgynon 30 and have been so for about 5 years, which seems to coincide with the prickly heat starting. Could the two be related?
