What Is The Treatment For Toenail Pain?

I woke several times last night with a feeling that a pin was being lightly jabbed under my right, big toenail. Upon arising and checking for ingrown nail and finding nothing, I checked under the nail, but found nothing. It is still happening off and on, any idea what may be happening?
