What Leads To Dark And Solid Ear Wax?

I typically do not produce much ear wax. Well the other morning I felt something strange in my ear, I used my pinky finger to try to see if it was wax, what I eventually pulled from my ear was black and very hard, it felt like a little piece of gravel, I got 2 prices out, the matter was about the size of a grain of rice and was mostly black in color except it had what looked like very tiny Pcs of glass in it, is this normal?
