What Leads To Unresponsiveness After Having A Brain Stroke?

My brother has been treated for schizophrenia for over 50 years (he s 75). He s been suffering from Alzheimer s for the past 4 years or so; he now resides in an Assisted Living facility that provides memory care and was doing well, active, talkative, recognizes us, etc. Last week, he had a stroke right after lunch; and he s been in ICU for 4 days. He had a brain bleed but the CATScan shows the bleeding has stopped. My question is: we visited him today and he was asleep, and won t wake up. The nurse suggests they ve been giving him so many neurological tests that he s just tired. But we were calling his name and he wouldn t wake up, although he would raise his hand or arm and wave. He responded to the nurse s command to move his arm. Is that sleepiness normal after a stroke? What does it suggest?
