What To Do With White Area On The Tip Of Tongue?

On the tip of my tounge there is a white area, I asked my dr what it was he said died skin, that he could cut it off of I want. That nothing was wrong. This has been about a year. I have had this for a few years but now it is layering. I can bit it off in some areas the next day it hurts, it is I can not feel it ever.
