What Was The Lump Under My Areola?

When I was younger I had a lump inside my left breast under my areola, it hurt really bad and when I touched it I had brownish clear liquid come out of my nipple area. It was a searing pain but I ignored it because I was only 13 and was too embarrassed to talk to any body about it. It hasn't come back yet but I am curious if it could be something, considering breast cancer runs in my family.
