What Would Happen If A Neuron Could Not Repolarize? Would

What would happen if a neuron could not repolarize? Would it just be continuously releasing whatever neurotransmitter the initial action potential released? Or would it be in limbo so to speak and be completely inactive and unresponsive until it could fire again?
