When I Have My Regular Check-up, My Doctor Always Mentions

When I have my regular check-up, my doctor always mentions that my potassium is too high, but never tells me what to do about it. When I ask if it is serious, he says something like "it could get serious"
My last test was one month ago and the potasssium was 5.9. So how bad is this number?
Thank you.
