When I Wake Up In The Morning My Left Hand

When I wake up in the morning my left hand has been swelling. I have a pain along the vein all the way up my left arm. It hurts to the touch. I didn't think it was a blood clot because my hand swelling goes down each day. But the vein pain seems to stay. A few months ago I had a kidney stone and the hospital administered iv phenagin that burned like hell. The pain in my arm is the same pain I had back then. Could it be related or could this be a clot or something else entirely?
