My husband is 72 years old, has had diabetes for 16 years, takes medicine for high blood pressure, takes insulin shots, is very obese, takes Prozac for depression, takes generic cymbalta prescribed for nuropathy and general pain and/or depression, takes a multi vitamin, eats mostly protein and carbs, eats very few vegetables (corn & peas), very few fruits, lost about 50 lbs on HMR doctor-monitored diet in 3 months but has gained 25 lbs back most of it in his waist/stomach area, had a stroke 10 years ago with no paralasis, moody and negative attitudes plus other introvert attitudes, insulting comments to selected people including his second wife of 15 years (me), a problem drinker for many, many years drinking three to four 8oz-glasses of wine daily, can go without wine for a couple weeks, but then starts again. When I read his profile at the doctor's office, he indicated he was a non-drinker of alcohol; Perhaps that was when he tried to stop drinking, but started again. When losing the 50 lbs weight, he walked 3 to 5 miles a day for 3 months, but then stopped altogether when he had trouble breathng and had pain all over his body--in joints, no energy, crabby.
He does go to a good, general practice doctor with interest in diabetes,
who sees him several times a years. He doesn't want me to interfere with his health issues and gets very angry when I give suggestions. I will be in trouble if he finds I have revealed the above symptons. MY QUESTION IS: What kind of a doctor should I suggest he consult?
