Why Does Diet Soda Cause Heart Palpitations?

Hi, I have stop drinking diet soda about 4 days ago, then I had a glass of diet soda and within 30 minuts I felt heart palpitation. I put ice cold water and that bought the palpitation down. I did have caffeinated coffee in the morning and did not experience any palpitations. Why did the soda bring palpitations?
