Why Does One Start To Slur After Having Beer?

My husband is 55 years old and a few years ago he started acting really weird after just 1 beer or so. He starts to slurr, his eyes look funny, he moves really deliberately, and his breath smells like alcohol. It doesn't happen all the time. What could it be?
