Why Is Absence Of A Heart Murmur A Matter Of Concern?

Hello,, I have a 95 year-old father in law who has a leaky heart valve. At his dr. appt yesterday, the doc made a comment that he did not hear a murmur and that is not good. Trying to research what that means. Not finding answers. Heart rate is 78. BP 111/66 really just trying to find out why no murmur is a bad thing. Thanks, Lisa
