Why Is Back Of Tongue Hitting Back Of Throat While Sleeping?

Hi there, I am Scott and I have an unusual problem when I am trying to sleep. The back of my tongue keeps hitting the back of my throat. It s the part of the throat where you swallow not down the esophagus. This is causing discomfort and is affecting my ability to sleep. This has been occurring for more than a week now and I keep having the same feeling 24x7. Any advice that you can give me would be much appreciated. Thank you
