Why Is My Bruise Changing Colors From Purple To Red?

I fell last week and bruised my side. Now the bruise changes colors on a daily basis from purple back to red and then back to purple and red again, should I be concerned? I have pain on that side which did get worst after a few days from the original pain from the fall.
